Shiv Sena Goa unit president Shivprasad Joshi did not take an even minute to announce that Kannadigas are not patriots, they do not even know to sing the National Anthem. But Goa, which had published the incomplete national anthem are the true patriots, said the Sena leaders.

Class II Marathi textbooks in Goa had incomplete national anthem published by the Goa State Education Board. Even this information did not deter the Shiv Sena people from making such a nonsensical comment against the Kannadigas.

"People in Goa are patriots. I know many students who can sing complete Vande Mataram unlike Karnataka where many people do not even know how to sing the national anthem, and they also do not know our national fathers," Joshi had told.

Shiv Sena is exchanging heated words with the Karnataka as the latter is demanding water from Mahadayi River which involves Maharashtra and Goa. Thus joining hands with Goa, Maharashtra does not want to share the water with Karnataka.

This ‘not patriots’ dialogue has come following a Karnataka bandh called by Vatal Nagaraj and other pro-Kannada organisations demanding drinking water (from Mahadayi River.) However, coming back to the non-patriotic statement, Shiv Sena must check on its own leaders and their attitudes first.

Shiv Sena minister from Maharashtra, Raveendra Gayakwad not only used abusive language but also indulged in physically abusive behaviour against an Air India staff who was not at fault. Perhaps, by being patriots, Sena meant Karnataka does not have such leaders and even common people who can create an atmosphere of terror.

Karnataka has hundreds of people who have represented and made the country proud. If Mumbai still lives on Sachin Tendulkar’s name, and Goa has no one to boast of any names so far. But Karnataka has Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastry, Venkatesh Prasad, Rahul Dravid, Manish Pandey and many more budding players to boast of who have represented the country and you can watch them sing the National Anthem just before any match started for years together.

Among the scientists operating from ISRO, who has created a series of histories, making India proud is situated in Karnataka. From M G K Menon (1972), UR Rao (1985), AS Kiran Kumar who assumed office on 14 January 2015 are from Karnataka. But there has been no person from Goa who has led the Indian Science Research team to create history and making India proud.

Karnataka has proved its mettle in every field and has made the country proud. Unlike Mumbai, where Shiv Sena decided to chase out the people from other states, or Goa which evacuated the Kannadigas from the Baina Beach premises, Karnataka is a house to people from all over the country. Being a patriot is respecting your own country. When the Sena leaders cannot even respect their own countrymen (from other states) how can you boast of being a patriot?

Be it respecting the Air India staff or people from Bihar or Madhya Pradesh, no one has seen Shiv Sena showing a true sense of patriotism through their deeds. Yes, they have been heard shouting slogans against many organisations, other states, and even shouting out loudly ‘Mera Bharat Mahan’.

But does that make them true patriots? Stop bullying others and show your love towards the nation through your deeds.
