FollowIn a major development, AICC social media head, former MP, actor Ramya will be convinced to contest from Mandya for the Vidhana Sabha elections said highly placed sources in Congress, reported Kannada Prabha.
Ramya is preparing the ground to contest Lok Sabha elections but the attempts to bring her to State politics, by the Party leaders is because of the apprehension of losing out Mandya to JD(S) totally. According to a survey carried out in Mandya by the Congress, JD(S) is going strong in all the 7 constituencies and Congress has no presence. The survey report says despite 2 of JD(S) MLAs, Ramesh Bandisiddegowda from Srirangapattana and Cheluvaraya Swamy from nagamangala, defecting to Congress and even if Ambarish himself contests also Congress will be washed out in Mandya.
Currently Congress has won in 2 constituencies, Malavalli and Mandya and JD(S) has won in 4 constituencies – Srirangapattana, Nagamangala, Madduru and K R Pete. Melukote seat was won by an independent. However, the survey reflects Congress has lost its hold. The Congress leaders have panicked and want to save grace. Hence, after collecting public opinion, they are advised to field Ramya from Mandya says the report. Ramya is in no mood to return to State politics and she has to be convinced, say sources.
The State Congress leaders are gearing up to convince Ramya to contest from either Maddur or Melukote. Maddur was S K Krishna’s constituency. If Ramya decides to contest from one of the constituencies in Mandya, it will have far reaching effects on other constituencies as well. She has a huge woman followers and Congress will definitely get a boost in Mandya.
Currently Ramya is enjoying national attention as AICC Social Media head and is doubtful of returning to State politics or will Congress leaders be successful in convincing her is a big question.
Meanwhile, MP D K Suresh is all set to contest from Channapattana. C P Yogeshwar quit Congress to join BJP and old rivals D K Shivakumar and H D Kumaraswamy had joined hands to fight Yogeshwar. It was also decided that if Anitha Kumaraswamy contests from Channapattana Congress would lure one of Yogeshwar’s close associate to contest from there as a dummy candidate. In return JD(S) was to field weak candidate in Kanakapura. However JD(S) does not seem to have agreed for this pact. Hence D K Suresh is getting ready to test his luck from Channapattana, sources said.
