AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi paid a visit Parvathamma Rajkumar’s family in their family house at Sadashivanagar in Bengaluru on Monday.

Sandalwood’s first and strongest producer Parvathamma died of multiple organ dysfunction syndromes which resulted in a cardiac arrest on May 31. It can be noted that actress Ramya, who was introduced to the Kannada film industry by Parvathamma Rajkumar is currently the social media team head of the Congress party. There are speculations that Ramya might have given the idea to Rahul to pay a visit to Dr Rajkumar’s house. This move has been welcomed by many, especially the Congress supporters in Karnataka as they hold Dr Rajkumar and his family with high regards.

Puneeth Rajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar and Shivarajkumar welcomed Rahul Gandhi to their family house, who was accompanied by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. With Siddaramaiah's visit it is a clear indication that someone (most likely Shivarajkumar's wife Geetha) might contest from Congress soon.

Interestingly, leaders of all parties had expressed their condolences after the death of Dr Rajkumar in 2006. The President of the All India Congress Committee, Sonia Gandhi had said that with the death of Dr Rajkumar, Indian cinema has lost one of its titans and the country a great artist.

She had even sent a message to Parvathamma Rajkumar and said that Rajkumar’s iconic status was heightened by the courage and dignity which he displayed when he was kidnapped by Veerappan. It was perhaps these qualities that shamed his captor into releasing him.

Rahul Gandhi was in Bengaluru to re-open the National Herald which was launched in 1938 by Jawaharlal Nehru, his great-grandfather.
