Picnic turns tragic as five from Goa feared drowned in Nagarmadi falls near Karwar

Five of a gang of friends including two men feared to have been drowned in the Nagarmadi waterfalls at Chendiya near Karwar in Uttar Kannada district on Sunday. They all hailed from Madgaon in Goa, it is reported.

The waterfalls is a popular tourist spot during the rainy season. Many from Goa visit the waterfalls which are known to be a quite place to unwind. However, with the rains lashing the district for the past three days, the water was in full force in the falls. A resident told a news channel that the tourists might have been washed as the water was gushing in full force, after heavy rainfall. "Search is on to fish out the bodies. But it would be impossible with the way the water is gushing from the falls," the resident added. Two bodies have been recovered, so far.

Fire personnel have been rushed to the spot and are searching for the bodies.
