FollowDespite the Supreme Court ban on the manual cleaning of manhole, the inhuman practice is still alive. And this time, it has been reported from chief minister's home town, Mysuru.
Chamundi Hills Gram Panchayat president S Geetha allegedly made a powrakarmika, Ganesh to clean the clogged drain of her house. It is reported that Ganesh refused to get into the pit. But Geetha allegedly threatened him from dire consequences forcing him to clean the filth of her house.

Later, when a video of Ganesh getting into the manhole pit was circulated everywhere, Geetha rushed into a damage control mode.
She told mediapersons in Mysuru that she did not force Ganesh to clean the manhole. "I have nothing to do with this. This is a conspiracy against me. I have offered Ganesh soap and water to clean himself. Yet, I'm being targeted," she told the reporters.
Social Welfare Department joint director Prabha visited the spot and gathered details from the officials. A few months ago, died due to toxic flames in the State capital. And the Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya had reportedly stated that the state government was planning to bring in a new legislation to allow manual scavenging in emergency situations. His statements had attracted widespread criticism.
