Woman strangles abusive son to protect daughter-in-law from beatings

FollowIn order to save her daughter-in-law from her son's beatings, a 45-year-old woman reportedly strangled her own son to death at Mankhurd on Tuesday evening. Guilt-ridden, the woman then stayed by the body of her son the entire night, wailing in despair and helplessness.
According to a statement by the Mankhurd police, 25-year-old Nadeem Naim was a drug addict and he always came home in an inebriated state and beat his wife. He lived with his mother, wife, two brothers and their wives in Ambedkar chawl. He got married 2 years ago to a woman from Allahabad who was unaware of his addiction. However, one day, she got fed up with the beating and decided to leave.
He mother-in-law didn't want her to go and promised her that this would not be repeated. She also convinced her saying that she would protect her if her son ever tried to beat her up again. The accused Anwari Idrisi, thus, convinced her daughter-in-law to come back. However, things took a drastic turn on Tuesday night, said inspector Chandrakant Landge of Mankhurd police station.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times, he said, "On Tuesday night, Nadeem came home in an inebriated state when the entire family was present. Anwari realised that Nadeem would become violent and ordered her sons and daughters-in-law to sleep in the neighbour’s house. Nadeem could not tolerate this and after everyone had left, he began beating his mother. She took the beating."
When Nadeem got tired of beating her, Anwari pushed him to a steel ladder and tied her dupatta around his neck and strangled him to death. After he died, Anwari sat next to her body and wept the entire night. At around 5:45 am, when the daughter-in-law came back, she saw Anwari crying beside her son's body. In her statement, after being arrested, Anwari confessed that she had killed her son to save her daughter-in-law from torture. She was arrested for murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Meanwhile, Nadeem's body was sent for post-mortem.
