Kolkata: A taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly passing lewd remarks at actor and Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty.

The incident took place when Mimi was returning home from the gym. On Monday (September 14) afternoon, when Mimi's car was stopped at a traffic signal in the area between Baliganj and Gariahat, a taxi overtook her car.

When Mimi lowered the glass of her car, she noticed that the driver of the taxi standing next to her car was making obscene gestures towards her. Mimi got out of the car and pulled the taxi driver down too. She angrily said that he would be handed over to the police. By then, the streets were crowded.

Mimi then contacted the police. Police rushed to the spot and started searching for the accused driver. He was also arrested that night (September 14). Coincidentally, Mimi's bodyguard was not with her on that day.

On Tuesday (September 15), Mimi said, "If a taxi driver can make such obscene gestures and comments in public even after seeing a government vehicle, then what will happen to the common man?”

Police said a taxi overtook Mimi's car at around 1 pm on Monday (September 14) near the Baliganj outpost. Mimi got out of the car and stopped the taxi. Then the taxi driver kept on insulting Mimi. He also made obscene gestures. The MP quickly contacted the on-duty sergeant.

According to the police, the sergeant arrested the driver along with the taxi within half an hour. The driver's name is Deba Yadav. He is 32 years old. He was arrested from Anandapur police station area along the bypass. A case has been filed against the taxi driver at Gariahat police station on charges of indecency, obscene gestures, and insults.

Incidentally, Mimi has taken on such a defensive role before. About four years ago, Mimi stopped her car when she saw a pedestrian being hit by a bike. He stopped the bike rider and took him down on the road and called the police. It was later found that the biker was drunk.
