West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed the BJP on the Gorkhaland issue. The Trinamool chief claimed that the BJP raised the Gorkhaland issue before the assembly polls to get votes from the people of hills.

At the Jalpaiguri meeting, Mamata Banerjee gave a clear message. She said, “Only the Trinamool Congress can find a permanent solution to the hills. No one else can.”

The Chief Minister visited North Bengal and held a meeting at Jalpaiguri on Tuesday (December 15). From the ABPC ground, Mamata Banerjee clarified about the Gorkhaland issue. She said, “Only we can give a permanent solution to the hills. The BJP cannot. For six years, the BJP has been promising to find out a solution for the hills but it could not do it.”

“The BJP promised to divide Bengal into separate states. With this promise, they won the seats in the mountains in 2014 and 2019. We did not promise anything so we did not win. But unfortunately, the BJP did not keep its promise. The BJP raised the issue of Gorkhaland because the polls are approaching and they need the votes of the people. The BJP has always supported a separate Gorkhaland by dividing Bengal,” she added.

Mamata Banerjee alleged that the BJP only makes false promises and try to win votes. In the meeting, Banerjee gave a clear message that her government will never promise of making a separate Gorkhaland even though Bimal Gurung supports the Trinamool in the upcoming assembly polls.
