Tamil Nadu reports 1,927 new COVID-19 cases, 19 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours

The total number of cases recorded in the state is now at 36,841, including 17,179 active cases, 19,333 discharged and 326 deaths.

Chennai: On June 10, Tamil Nadu reported 1927 fresh coronavirus cases. This is the highest ever single-day spike the southern state has witnessed.

Among the 1,927 cases 1,392 cases are from Chennai. It is also reported that 30 patients are from other countries or from other Indian states.

The state's case count reached 36,841 and with 19 more fatalities in the last 24 hours. The state's death toll stands at 326.

Among those who succumbed to coronavirus is DMK MLA from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency in Chennai, J Anbazhagan. He becomes the first VIP victim from Tamil Nadu to succumb to the novel coronavirus.

The 62-year-old legislator breathed his last at the Dr Rela Institute and Medical Centre in the city. He was admitted to hospital on June 2 after testing positive for coronavirus. The leader passed away on his 62nd birthday.
