Suspended TMC leader arrested for raping minor in Darjeeling
A former TMC leader has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl for three days in his poultry farm in the Kharibari area of Darjeeling.

The former TMC leader was suspended by the party a few years ago for breaching discipline.

The incident took place about two weeks ago but the minor girl’s mother lodged a police complaint on Sunday (January 3) night.
Ujjwal Sarkar, the accused, was arrested on Monday (January 4) morning. The victim’s family accused that he threatened the minor girl with terrible consequences if she opened her mouth.
TMC leaders disassociated themselves from Ujjwal Sarkar, saying he was suspended seven years ago for breaching discipline.
The victim’s family has alleged that the former TMC leader took the girl to his farm and locked her up for three days and raped her.
Kalyan Debnath, BJP Siliguri district youth committee president, said, “The girl narrated the incident to her grandmother and the matter then came to light. However, there was an attempt to suppress crime. We helped the family to get justice.”
