Road accidents on the rise in Uttar Pradesh; 6 farmers killed, 1 injured in mishap

Five people died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries in the hospital as a mini-truck collided with a truck. One person has been seriously injured in the mishap in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah.

Etawah, UP: Six farmers were mowed down by a speeding truck in Friends Colony area in Etawah district on National Highway 2 in Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday. All the farmers had gone to sell vegetables and were returning home.

Five persons died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries in the hospital. One person has been seriously injured in the mishap.

The farmers were travelling on a mini-truck when they were hit by another speeding truck.

SSP Etawah Akash Tomar reached the site on receiving information about the accident and shifted the injured to the mini-PGI in Saifai.

"The bodies are being sent for post mortem and further investigations are on," the SSP said.

R Singh, SP City, said, "Farmers were going to market to sell jackfruit. The injured person admitted at Saifai Medical College.”

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the incident and has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured farmer.

Uttar Pradesh has seen a rise in road mishaps involving migrant workers and farmers over the past two weeks.

Three migrant labourers were killed and over 12 were injured in road mishap on Monday night in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district, police said.

A DCM carrying 17 people overturned due to tyre burst on Jhansi-Mirzapur highway, they said.

Last week, 26 migrant labourers had died after two trucks collided in Auraiya district.
