Priyanka Chowdhury held for murder of software engineer

The CBI has arrested Priyanka Chowdhury who was the prime accused in the murder case of a software engineer. The accused, Priyanka Chowdhury, was produced before Barrackpore Court on Tuesday (January 5) and remanded in CBI custody for 7 days.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Priyanka Chowdhury who was the prime accused in the murder case of a software engineer. Priyanka is the daughter-in-law of Mohun Bagan football club vice-president Balaram Chowdhury.

The accused, Priyanka Chowdhury, was produced before Barrackpore Court on Tuesday (January 5) and remanded in CBI custody for 7 days.

The software engineer named Junior Mridha got involved in a relationship with Priyanka through social media. It has been alleged that despite being married, Priyanka continued the relationship with Mridha. When Mridhaā€™s parents got to know about Priyanka's marital status, they asked Mridha to break ties with Priyanka.

On July 12, 2011, Mridha got a call from Priyanka. He went to meet her. Ā Later that night, Mridha's body was found under the bridge on Belgharia Expressway. According to reports, Mridha was shot dead by unknown assailants on the Belgharia Expressway.Ā

An FIR was lodged at Baranagar police station on July 13 by Mridhaā€™s uncle. The local police started investigating the case. Four years later, on July 19, 2017, it was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department. Later, the Calcutta High Court handed over the investigation to the CBI.

During the probe, CBI officials gathered the call details of Priyanka and Mridha. The police are investigating the possibility that Priyanka hired contract killers to kill Mridha.
