On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha was informed that only two people had purchased properties in Jammu and Kashmir since August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was repealed. A question was raised in the Parliament whether how many people from other states have purchased or are interested in but properties in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Replying to the question in a written format, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai informed that as per the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, two persons from outside the state purchased two properties in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of the Article 370.

The minister was asked whether the government or people from other states faced any while purchasing the property; the minister said that the government reported no such instances.

On August 5, 2019, the Union government repealed Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories.
Later, the administration formulated a new definition of domicile for Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre also extended domicile rights to central government employees who served in the state for ten years and their children.
