In what might look like a good political bargain between the NDA government and Dr. Najma Heptullah, the former minister has been appointed as the Governor of Manipur.

According to a Hindu report, the Manipur government has been informed about the latest appointment.
The 76-year-old former minority affairs minister resigned last month as Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes that the ministers should discontinue once they attain the age of 75 years.
Heptullah would be taking over the charges from V. Shamuganathan, who was handling both Meghalaya and Manipur.
According to the Hindu report, Dr. Heptullah would be sworn in soon.
Often senior politicians are appointed as Governors in states after they retire from active politics – voluntarily or involuntarily.
