In a shocking incident, two Muslim women were attacked by a group of gau rakshaks (cow vigilantes) at a railway station in Madhya Pradesh today for allegedly carrying large quantities of beef.

The incident had happened at Mandsaur, about 350 km from capital Bhopal.

The entire incident was video graphed on mobile phones by bystanders.

Upon preliminary investigation by a veterinarian, it was found that the women were carrying buffalo meat. And to make matters worse, policemen present refused to stop the vigilantes from attacking the women.

Reports add that the policemen had gone to the station to arrest the two women following a tip-off that the two were carrying beef. The women were beaten up after they were arrested by the police.

The attack has already spiralled into a controversy with opposition parties slamming the BJP in the Parliament.

This is a second such incident where vigilantes have attacked people for carrying beef in past one week. Last week Dalits in Gujarat protested across the state after video of four men flogged for cow skinning cow in Una.
