Modi to launch an airline exclusively for Northeast

The Modi government has finally decided to tackle connectivity issues to the Northeast India by launching a new airline based out of Guwahati that will connect to all the state capitals in the North-eastern part of the country.

According to a report in the Economic Times, the airline company will be a subsidiary of Pawan Hans Helicopters that already operates in the region. As of now, the plan is to have a fleet that consists of six fixed-wing planes and five helicopters. A proposal has already been sent to the aviation ministry and the North Eastern Council (NEC) for approval, sources from the government revealed.

This is for the first time that the government of India has taken up the issue of flight connectivity in the Northeast seriously and has finally decided to launch this airline. Currently, Alliance Air and Air India have been providing air connectivity only in selected regions of the Northeast.
