Kolkata felt the chill of winter as mercury dipped to 11.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday (December 29).

West Bengal will tremble in the cold even on New Year's Day. The Alipore Meteorological Department said that the long innings of north wind will continue uninterruptedly even at the beginning of the new year.

Monday’s (December 28) minimum temperature was 11.4 degrees Celsius which is a notch above normal. Last year also during this time of the year the temperature was 12 °C.

It has been getting cold in Kolkata for the last few days. Crowds are flooding in tourist places like Kolkata, Bankura, Purulia, Digha, Bakkhali, Darjeeling.

However, according to the weather department, there will be some respite this week as the temperature is likely to increase by two degrees Celsius at least.

There is dense fog and cold wave in some regions of East and West Midnapore, East and West Burdwan Hooghly, Purulia, Jhargram, Bankura, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia.
