Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of 12 Wing, Air Commodore Deepak Pant, on Sunday flagged off an enthusiastic promotional run at Sukhna Lake featuring over 50 Air Force personnel to step up community outreach ahead of the upcoming Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon on 4th October.
Talking to reporters, Air Cmde Deepak Pant discussed the motivation behind targeting younger generations and fitness enthusiasts and highlighted the upcoming timeline for the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon in Chandigarh on October 4, 2026. "It is in the name of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, and this is a promo run to spread awareness about the event. Our target audience is Gen, the environment is going to be wonderful on 4th October," he said.
A Tribute to a National Hero
Stressing the tribute dedicated to Param Vir Chakra recipient Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Pant explained the initiative behind the event and said, "Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon displayed extraordinary courage while defending the Srinagar Air Base during the 1971 India-Pakistan War."
"He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military gallantry award," he added.
Building Momentum for the Marathon
On Sunday, a promo run planned at Sukhna Lake, in which more than 50 Air Force officials participated, was organised to generate awareness among the masses, flagged off by AOC 12 Wing.
