Speaker Educates Students on Legislative Process
Around 200 students from Army Public School Dagshai in Solan, Himachal Pradesh Institute of Legal Studies in Shahpur, DAV Public School Kumarasain and DAV Public School Tutu interacted with Pathania at the Assembly ahead of the day's assembly proceedings.
During the interaction, the students asked questions about the functioning of the Assembly, the Speaker's role, the formation of the legislature and the Council of Ministers. Pathania responded to their queries and explained the country's parliamentary system. He said India's parliamentary system is based on a federal structure, with Parliament at the Centre and legislatures at the state level. He explained the roles of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and said that legislative councils are there in some states.
On the Role of the Speaker
Pathania said he was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 14th Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and that his primary responsibility is to conduct the proceedings of the House. He added that cooperation from both the ruling and opposition members is essential for the smooth conduct of business.
A Message for Future Lawyers and Judges
Addressing the students pursuing legal studies, Pathania said they are the future advocates and judges of the country and have a responsibility to uphold democracy and the rule of law. He also highlighted the contribution of lawyers to India's freedom movement and cited Motilal Nehru, Vithalbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr Rajendra Prasad as examples.
Upholding Parliamentary Traditions
The Speaker said the Himachal Pradesh Assembly has maintained a high standard of parliamentary traditions and dignity. He also recalled Vithalbhai Patel's contribution as the first elected President of the Central Legislative Assembly.
Pathania extended his best wishes to the students and invited them to witness the proceedings of the House. Congress Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, was also present during the interaction. (ANI)
