Kasaragod: Four natives of Kasaragod decided to move on their own when the train stopped at a signal before the station near Uppala in Kasaragod. The train which began its journey in Maharashtra and was moving towards Kasaragod halted before Uppala station when the men got out from the train and started to run.

Their co-passengers soon raised the alarm and informed police about the incident. A search was launched for them. These men were hauled by local police when they were trying to escape in an autorickshaw.

They were taken into custody and were admitted to institutional quarantine by police. Koyippadi native Shaji and others were charged for violation of quarantine. They knew that they would have to be in quarantine once they reached the railway station which may have prompted them to flee the train in advance.
