Acting Vice-Chancellor P C Joshi of Delhi University stated that the university will be opened in stages since student safety is a top priority. Following a substantial improvement in Delhi's COVID-19 situation, the Delhi government said on Friday that schools for Classes 9 to 12, colleges, and coaching institutions will reopen on September 1.

According to a university spokesman, a meeting of top authorities was conducted on Wednesday, and the university may reopen next week. On Thursday, the university will conduct a conference with principals, deans, and department heads to address the university's reopening situation.
The Chancellor further said pupils are spread over India and don't want to put them in a panic. He further said that colleges would reopen in stages and caution so that no student is jeopardised or inconvenienced.

The interim Vice-Chancellor stated that they will reopen for a limited number of pupils at first. He emphasised student safety and notified PhD and MPhil students that they would be arriving on campus in a controlled way. He also stated that new DDMA rules have been issued and that they would be followed.

The DU issued an official notification in the first week of August announcing that it would hold physical classes for science stream students due to a decrease in coronavirus cases, prompting a section of teachers to express their displeasure with the university's decision to call students to campus.
Later, the university postponed its decision, with DU registrar Vikas Gupta noting that the Delhi Disaster Management Authority has made no suggestions for campus reopening.
