The temple demolition has now become a bone of contention between Hindu outfits and the BJP government headed by Lingayat CM Basavaraj Bommai.

Hindu Mahasabha leader Dharmendra landed in jail after he reportedly issued serious threats to Karnataka CM Bommai for failing to protect temples.

While addressing reporters at a conference to condemn the Mysuru temple demolition, Dharmendra said that when they (Hindu outfits) did not spare Mahatma Gandhiji, who are you (referring to Bommai).

According to reports, the Hindu leader also said that if the BJP government fails to prevent temple demolition, then Minister Shashikala Jolle and also BS Yediyurappa may also face the wrath.

Following such a statement, a complaint was filed against Dharmendra Suratkal in Mangaluru and he was arrested. However the leader seems to be in no mood to withdraw his statement.

He contended that it is the BJP government in power and had this incident happened in Congress regime, a violent agitation would have taken place.  He said the Mahasabha has been protesting against temple demolition. Recently it protested against such issues in Chitradurga too.

He said that while temples are targeted, religious structures like Churches and Masjids are spared.

Recently, a temple in Nanjangud in Mysuru was demolished by the District Administration following orders of DC Bagadi Gautham. The DC had cited Supreme Court guidelines.

Due to statewide protest, the government asked the officials to halt the drive and also issued notices to DC and tahsildar.

During the protest, BJP  MLA SA Ramadas had to face humiliation as the agitators raised 'down down BJP' slogans on his face.

In Chikkamagaluru, MP Pratap Sinha and Tejasvi Surya were cornered by pro-Hindu outfits.
