On Monday, August 9, the Delhi government has partially reopened schools for Class 10 and 12 students. As per the guidelines released by the government, students can visit the school for admission-related work, attend school for counselling and practical activities for board examinations. The order further stated that health checkups and referral services situated in schools or conducted could resume. It said that children of all ages should visit these centres accompanied by their parents.

Further, the Directorate of Education shall issue appropriate guidelines regarding the permitted activities to ensure that coronavirus protocols should be followed and that children's safety is guaranteed.

Previously, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia stated that he received over 35,000 suggestions on reopening schools and said that a decision would be taken soon after receiving feedback from the stakeholders.

Initially, the government had asked for feedback from students, teachers and parents about reopening schools keeping the current coronavirus situation in mind.
In March 2020, the educational institutions in the national capital were closed ahead of nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19. However, they were partially reopened for classes 9 to 12 in January this year but were shut again in April due to the aggressive second wave of COVID-19.

In other news, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority issued an order that permitted weekly markets across the state capital from Monday following the coronavirus protocols.
