Bengaluru: In some good news to passengers travelling through public transport, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to extend bus timings on January 1, 2020 enabling passengers to take buses later than the existing schedule after New Year’s party in town.

In an aim not to dampen the spirits of the partygoers, the BMTC will be plying more buses from all important junctions till late hours. These bus services will be in addition to the 143-night services that the BMTC already operates.

More buses will ply from Majestic bus stand, MG road, Brigade Road and many other points. On Saturday, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said it will run metro service till 2 am only for New Year’s Day.

The police are also keeping a strict vigil to make sure no untoward incidents are reported during New Year’s celebrations. Earlier, city police commissioner Bhaskar Rao told the media that he had requested both BMRCL and BMTC to extend their service timings for those who gather in public places for the New Year celebrations. New Year’s Eve celebrations at Bengaluru’s MG Road and Brigade Road attract thousands of people from across the city every year.

BMRCL metro trains would be running late night. BMTC will ply E-feeder buses from Vijayanagar to Banashankari, Ullala, Mysore Road to Kengeri, BEML 5th stage, Banashankari to Kaggalipura, Jayanagar to Vaddarahalli, Gorguntepalya to Vidyaranyapura, Nagasandra to Chikkabannavara, Swami Vivekanand to Whitefield TTMC, KR Puram, Central Silk Board on January 1, 2020.

With extended BMTC and BMRCL timing, Bengaluru Police too have taken a number of safety measures like installing additional CCTV cameras, drones, watch towers and LED screens inspecific areas.
