Bihar Road Rage: Absconding Manorama Devi surrenders

Absconding JD(U) MLC Manorama Devi, whose son Rocky Yadav was arrested in connection with the killing of a Gaya youth in an incident of road rage, surrendered in court today and was remanded into 14 days of judicial custody.

Manorama Devi surrendered at the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-IV Som Sagar, as the morning court started for the day.

The ruling party legislator surrendered a week after she went into hiding avoiding her impending arrest.

An arrest warrant was issued last week, after a search party investigating her son Rocky, recovered liquor bottles from Devi's house even after Bihar had been declared a dry state.

The same court is expected to pronounce the verdict on the attachment of her property today. The petition was field by the police yesterday.

The MLC appeared in court even as the police was on the  lookout for her after an arrest warrant was issued.

When asked if police were present in the court premises to arrest her before she could surrender, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gaya, Garima Mallik responded that the suspended legislator herself had surrendered due to intense police pressure.

With the surrender of the MLC, the entire family of Manorama Devi, including her husband and son, are now in jail in the case of the murder of class XII student Sachdeva, who was allegedly shot dead by Rocky Yadav after the deceased's car overtook his SUV.
