Bengal police arrests two TMC leaders for assaulting BSF jawan

The Murshidabad district police in West Bengal have arrested two TMC leaders for allegedly assaulting a BSF jawan on December 11.

The name of the injured jawan is Biswajit Sahani. He is 32 years old. He was posted at Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir.

The BSF jawan came to his house in Mushirdabad on leave. The jawan’s family lives in the Kalabagan area of Kandi.

Two TMC leaders named Saddam Hossain and Hiran Miyan assaulted the BSF jawan when he was returning from the local market on his two-wheeler. 

Biswajit’s family members said to police, “The TMC was holding a procession as part of its new outreach programme in Kandi town. There was chaos on the road and Biswajit was stuck in the road. He requested the TMC men to let him go. The TMC leaders opposed his request and this led to an altercation. Biswajit was assaulted and his two-wheeler was also vandalised.”

The BSF jawan was taken to the Kandi government hospital and was later moved to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in Berhampore town.

The police arrested Saddam Hossain and Hiran Miyan from Kandi on Monday (December 14) night for assaulting Biswajit Sahani. Hossain is a member of the local Mahalandi gram panchayat while Miyan is a TMC leader in Kandi town.

Subhas Ghosh, inspector-in-charge of Kandi police station, said, “Saddam Hossain and Hiran Miyan have been arrested. They will be produced before the local court on Tuesday.”
