The Trinamool Congress on Friday (February 26) said the double-engine analogy by the BJP will be a non-starter in the state. TMC leader and minister Bratya Basu said that BJP leaders are highlighting the need for the same party's government both at the Centre and the state while campaigning in the state.

Bratya Basu said, “The BJP is pretending in the name of 'double engine'. They will sell the railways in the same way they will sell the state when they come to power.”

“The BJP's new scam is a double engine. But they will not be able to seize power through this propaganda. The people of Bengal know that the way the BJP has sold the railways if it comes to power, it will also sell the state. Bengal is far ahead of all the states that have double-engine governments. That is why the people of Bengal do not want a double engine,” he added.

BJP leaders have repeatedly called for a double-engine government to seize power in the upcoming assembly elections. According to them, the development will be much more if there is the same government at the centre and in the states.

According to the BJP, Bengal has lagged far behind in terms of development because the state has had an anti-central government for a long time. However, the Trinamool is unwilling to accept the BJP's demand.

Bratya Basu said, “in BJP-ruled states like UP and Madhya Pradesh, the backward castes are not given equal treatment vis-a-vis upper castes. They are discriminated while being served food, which is never practiced in Bengal.”

On the other hand, the BJP has been slammed for crimes against women in the state. Highlighting the statistics, Bratya Basu said, “The number of crimes against women in Bengal is less than in other states. But we want not even one incident of violence against women to happen in the state. The outsiders are behind these incidents. Lately, people are coming to Bengal from outside. As a result, the oppression on women is increasing. If people stop coming from outside, the oppression on women will also stop.”
