Stalker who killed 23-year-old Mumbai nurse, gets death penalty
- Ankur Panwar, a native of Delhi wanted to marry Preeti Rathi, but she had refused his advances
- The obsessed lover followed her to Mumbai and threw acid on her outside Bandra Terminus
A 25-year-old Delhi man was sentenced to death by a special Mumbai court on Thursday for hurling acid at a Mumbai nurse, which led to her death three years ago.
Â
Ankur Panwar, a native of Delhi, was obsessed with 23-year-old, Preeti Rathi, a nurse by profession. Both were neighbours in Delhi.
Â
Panwar wanted to marry Preeti. However, she had refused him. Later when she moved to Mumbai, the obsessed lover followed her.
Â
He attacked her on her first day in the city, where she was supposed to join a hospital. Panwar threw sulphuric acid on Preeti outside the Bandra Terminus on May 2, 2013.
Â
She later died of multiple organ failures. The special women's court found guilty of "gruesome, merciless and pre-planned" murder.
