Republic Media Network CEO Vikas Khanchandani has been granted bail in the TRP scam case which is being probed by the Mumbai Police.
Vikas Khanchandani was granted regular bail by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at the Esplanade court in Mumbai.
The bail was granted a day after the Republic TV CEO was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Earlier, Vikas Khanchandani spent 2 days in police custody following his arrest in the TRP scam case by the Mumbai police crime branch on Sunday morning. After having spent the night at Taloja jail, Vikas Khanchandani is expected to be released later in the day.
The Mumbai Police claimed that Ghanshyam Singh, the Assistant Vice President of ARG Outlier, was allegedly being directed to carry out illegal activities to increase TRPs for Republic TV by Chief Operating Officer Priya Mukherjee, who in turn was being instructed by Vikas Khanchandani.
The police claimed that it had discovered discussions about Landing Channel Number and Promotion LCN to boost Republic TV's TRPs on company's WhatsApp group after they seized cell phone of company's chief operating officer Priya Mukherjee (also part of the WhatsApp group), who has secured anticipatory bail in the matter.
The fake TRP scam came to light in October when ratings agency Broadcast Audience Research Council filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain television channels were rigging TRP numbers.
