India reports slightly higher cases than yesterday with 92,596 fresh COVID infections

India has reported over 92,596  new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, a number that is slightly higher than the previous day.

Meanwhile, active caseload has declined by 72,287 to 12,31,415. Recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 27th consecutive day.

A total of 1,62,664 patients were discharged yesterday, taking the total recovery numbers to 27,504,126. The weekly positivity rate currently stands at 5.66%, while daily positivity rate is at 4.66%, less than 10% for 16 consecutive days.
 

India's Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20 lakh-mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19. India had crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4.

Testing capacity has been ramped up. A total of 19,85,967 samples were tested yesterday for Covid, taking the overall count to 37. 01 crore, according to ICMR.

India has administered 23.90 crore vaccine doses so far and is only behind China and the US in vaccination race. The country started its vaccination drive against Covid on January 16 this year with two vaccines-Covishield and Covaxin.
