Showing an abrupt rise in daily Covid infections, India on Friday reported 44,230 new coronavirus cases and 555 fatalities in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Health Ministry.

With fresh cases, India's active caseload stands at 4,05,155, with the country witnessing an increase in active cases by 1,315 in the last 24 hours.

The top five states which have registered the maximum number of Covid-19 cases are Kerala with 22,064 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 7,242 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 2,107 cases, Karnataka with 2,052 cases and Tamil Nadu with 1,859 cases.

The national Covid-19 recovery rate has surged to 97.38% with 42,360 more recoveries, the 8 am data showed. The number of people who have recovered from coronavirus disease surged to 3,07,43,972, while the case fatality rate is at 1.34%, it said.

The daily positivity rate increased to 2.44% on Friday. The weekly positivity rate stood at 2.43%, the data showed.

A total of 18,16,277 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

In the meantime, India’s cumulative vaccine coverage has now surpassed 45 crore 55 lakh. As per the Health Ministry, nearly 47 lakh doses were administered yesterday.
