Coronavirus: India reports lowest daily COVID cases in 88 days with 53,256 new infections
The daily Covid count in India remained below 1 lakh for the fourteenth day in a row. At 53,256, the country reported the lowest daily rise in Covid cases in 88 days.
India on Monday recorded a significant drop in Covid-19 cases with 53,256 new infections, the lowest in 88 days since March 24. It is also the 14th consecutive day when India has reported less than one lakh new coronavirus cases.
In the last 24 hours, India reported 1,422 Covid deaths. The maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (605) followed by Tamil Nadu (182).
With this, the number of active cases in the country stands at 7,02,887 and the total case tally is just short of 3 lakh at 2,99,35,221.
The daily recoveries in the country continued to outnumber daily cases for the 39th consecutive day. In the last 24 hours, 78,190 patients recovered. The recovery rate has risen to 96.36%. The cumulative recoveries across India is now at 2,88,44,199, according to government data.
The daily case positivity rate stands at 3.83%, which means India's daily positivity rate has been less than 5% for 14 days consecutively. The weekly positivity rate has also remained below 5% at 3.32%.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 39,24,07,782 samples have been tested up to June 20 for Covid-19. Of these 13,88,699 samples were tested on Sunday.
As far as progress in vaccination is concerned, 28,00,36,898 doses have been administered in the country, including 30,39,996 who were jabbed in the last 24 hours. Starting today, all citizens above the age of 18 can get themselves vaccinated free of cost at government facilities.
