Coronavirus: India reports highest death toll with 6,148 COVID fatalities after Bihar revises toll
India reports 92,596 daily new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's tally to 2,90,89,069.
India reported 94,052 new Covid-19 cases and 6,148 new deaths today. The country has so far reported a total of 2,91,83,121 cases and 3,59,676 deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry's data updated on Thursday.
Bihar reconciled its figures and put the total number of fatalities caused by the disease at 9,429 after verification, it said.
The active cases in the country have reduced to 11,67,952 after 60 days comprising 4% of the total infections, while the national Covid recovery rate has improved to 94.77%, the data said.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,76,55,493, while the case fatality rate has increased to 1.23%, the data stated.
Also, 20,04,690 tests were conducted on Wednesday, taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of Covid-19 in the country to 37,21,98,253, while the daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.69%. It has been less than 10% for 17 consecutive days, the ministry said.
India's Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4.
Cumulatively, 24,27,26,693 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive in the country.
