Coronavirus: India reports 3.46 lakh new Covid-19 cases, 2,624 deaths in record single-day spike
India continues to set new Covid-19 world records, with cases remaining firmly over the three lakh mark for the third consecutive day.
India reported 3,46,786 new Covid-19 cases and 2,624 deaths, as per the latest Union Health Ministry data on Saturday, continuing the rise in fresh infections in the country, as a shortage of oxygen and drugs continues to overwhelm health systems across states.
India's total COVID-19 tally reached 1,66,10481 on Saturday. This is the highest single-day spike reported by any country in the world. This is also the deadliest day for India in the pandemic as the number of deaths is the highest single-day toll.
In addition to this, 2,19,838 were discharged from various hospitals across India in the same duration, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,38,67,997. Total recoveries stand at 1,38,67,997, while death toll is at 1,89,544. India now has 25,52,940 active cases.
The number of active cases in the country is over 25 lakh, which is around 15 per cent of the total cases.
The total number of people vaccinated under the government's inoculation program is 13,83,79,832.
