"Through the joint efforts made by the people and the Communist Party of China, we have declared complete success in fighting against poverty. As per the current situation, 98.99 million rural impoverished population has been lifted out of poverty from 2012 to 2020. About 832 core counties and 128,000 poor villages have been removed from the poverty list," Chinese President Ji Xinping announced.
"The poverty issue has been resolved. Therefore we have finished an arduous task of eradicating absolute poverty creating another incredible miracle," the Chinese President said while attending a ceremony marking China's accomplishments in eradicating poverty and commending role models.
China's poverty alleviation drive applied a realistic and pragmatic approach, he added.
