As India on Thursday crossed 1 billion vaccination milestone, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) light up 100 of its heritage monuments in colours of the national flag to celebrate the landmark in one of the World’s largest and fastest vaccination drive.

Seventeen UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun Tomb, Tughlaqabad Fort, Purana Qila, Fatehpur Sikri Agra, Ramappa Temple, Hampi, Dholavira (Gujarat), ancient Leh Palace; Currency Building and Metcalf Hall in Kolkata; Khajuraho temples (MP), and Golconda Fort in Hyderabad are among the 100 monuments which are illuminated in tricolour.

Vaccination played an important role in controlling the spread of the virus and halting the third wave and by administrating 100 crore Covid vaccine doses India becomes the only country along with China to be in the billion-dose club.
