Star Brazilian striker Neymar will take no further part in the ongoing season with French champion Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after suffering a severe ankle injury. It happened last month during the Parisians' 4-3 win over Lille, where he had to be stretchered out of the field. Meanwhile, he underwent surgery on Friday and is on his road to recovery.

Neymar has had a productive season since 2018-19, having been involved in 34 goals, which includes 18 goals and 16 assists across tournaments, which happens to be the second best of his PSG career, having been involved in 44 goals in his maiden season in 2017-18. While the Parisians have won both their Ligue 1 contests in the Brazilian's absence to stay at the table-top and firmly in contention to retain their crown, they were ousted by German champion Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) pre-quarters this week.

In the meantime, PSG head coach Christophe Galtier declared that Neymar is expected to be out of action for three to four months. As for his surgery, PSG confirmed in a statement: "Neymar underwent surgery late Friday morning at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha by Professors Pieter D'Hooghe, James Calder and Rodrigo Lasmar. The intervention went very well. The player will now follow a rest and care protocol."
