Coronavirus: BBMP cancels Independence parade, cultural programme this year
BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said Independence Day celebrations will be low key this year keeping in mind coronavirus pandemic
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to cancel the cultural programme, march past and aerial flower show during the official celebrations of the Independence Day this year.
Independence Day is celebrated every year by the state government at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground on Cubbon Road in Bengaluru.
According to BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad, there will not be any cultural programmes this year.
“Chief minister will unfurl the tricolour and address the people soon after soon after the guard of honour,” Prasad had said before CM tested positive for COVID-19.
The government has also decided not to have aerial flower shows this year by the Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters. “Public will not be allowed, but we’ll invite about 75 COVID warriors and 25 people who have recovered from the coronavirus to the event,” Prasad added.
