Heavy Rain Leaves Bengaluru Roads Flooded

Heavy evening showers lashed several parts of Bengaluru on Thursday, causing widespread disruption across the city. Rainwater quickly accumulated on roads, turning many stretches into waterlogged zones within minutes. Areas such as Majestic, MG Road, Indiranagar, Hebbal, Richmond Circle and Shivajinagar witnessed intense rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.

The sudden downpour came after a hot and humid day, with dark clouds covering the city by evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already warned of moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts.

Massive Traffic Gridlock Strands Commuters

The heavy rain severely affected traffic movement during peak office hours, leaving thousands of commuters stranded on busy roads. Major congestion was reported on Ballari Road, Mysuru Road, Bannerghatta Road, Tumakuru Road, Kanakapura Road and KR Puram stretches.

Vehicles moved slowly through flooded streets as visibility dropped due to continuous rainfall. In several areas, motorists were stuck in knee-deep water while overflowing drains and manholes added to the chaos. Office-goers, delivery workers and daily commuters struggled to navigate the city as traffic crawled for hours.

Authorities Issue Safety Warning Amid Rain Fury

Civic authorities warned residents about possible power cuts, falling tree branches and damage to weak structures due to the severe weather conditions. People were advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors during heavy rainfall.

Officials also urged residents not to stand near electric poles or take shelter under trees during lightning activity. Drivers were asked to remain cautious on slippery roads, while people living near lakes and low-lying areas were advised to move to safer places if required.

As pre-monsoon showers continue to intensify, Bengaluru once again witnessed its recurring problems of flooding, poor drainage and traffic paralysis, exposing the city’s ongoing struggle with urban infrastructure during heavy rains.
