Bollywood's worst kept secrets: Here's what Arjun Kapoor feels about stepmom Sridevi
Arjun Kapoor once revealed that for him Sridevi will only remain his father’s wife and could never be his mother
The fact that Arjun Kapoor does not share a warm and healthy relationship with stepmother Sridevi is one of Bollywood's worst kept secrets. Sridevi and Arjun never had a mother-son relationship nor did they share a cordial relationship.
Both Sri and Arjun maintained a stoic silence whenever confronted with unpleasant questions about each other. But it was at Karan Johar's chat show that the actor finally made a statement about this.
On being asked about his equation with his stepmother, Arjun replied that for him Sridevi will just remain his dad's wife and he can never consider her his mother. He also added that his own mother, Mona, had taught him never to disrespect anybody that is the reason why he has always been respectful and courteous towards her.
Spilling more secrets about his relationship with Sridevi, Arjun added that since his father cares for her, he would never do or say anything to hurt him. However, he also added that he knows that his family can never be like any other normal family but he holds no grudges against anyone.
Arjun's mother, Mona, passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2012. However, after Sridevi's demise, Arjun Kapoor offered his father Boney Kapoor and his stepsisters Janhvi and Khushi a shoulder to cry on.
He made headlines for the steps he had taken towards his family considering his on and off relationship with his father. After Sridevi's untimely death at a hotel in Dubai, Arjun immediately flew to Dubai to be on his father side and to complete the official documentation to bring Sridevi' mortal remains back to India for final rites.
Arjun was also actively involved in the funeral arrangements and played the role of elder brother being a pillar of strength for his grieving father and stepsisters.
During a recent interview, Arjun was called a hero by an interviewer for rushing to help his father after Sridevi's death. He immediately replied, "You are using a very big word – hero." He added, "I understand what you are saying. But I couldn't keep thinking about what people would think of me. I did what I felt was right. If I had collected too much opinion, it would have been just manipulative and without any emotions."
About flying to Dubai to be with his father, he said, "I am happy that I followed my instinct. I have no regrets. But I would never wish such a thing to happen to even my worst enemy. I wish it hadn't come to that thing for us to react towards each other."
"Even my mom would have wanted it this way, and not that I was doing a heroic act. My mom loved my father; she would have wanted me to be around my father in that moment of crisis, she would have wanted his near and dear ones to be near him. I know how it feels. I have seen it myself. It's not easy, my back is already broken. There is a sense of vacuum in me that only Anshula fills," he added.
