New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indian cricket and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma as they are expecting their first child. Currently, the duo is in the UAE for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) which begins tomorrow (September 19).
On Thursday (September 17), Kohli took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to wish PM Modi on his 70th birthday. “Wishing a very Happy birthday to our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji. @narendramodi @PMOIndia (sic),” RCB skipper wrote.
To this, PM Modi replied, “Thank you @imVkohli ! I would also like to congratulate @AnushkaSharma and you. I am sure you will be amazing parents! (sic).”
Kohli thanked Modi for the wishes. “Thank you for the lovely wishes sir,” he said.
Anushka too replied to PM Modi’s tweet. “Thank you sir for your lovely wish! Hope you had a great birthday! Wishing you good health always.”
After landing in Dubai for IPL 2020, Kohli and Anushka celebrated the pregnancy news by cutting a cake in the presence of RCB players.
Last month, Kohli took to social media to announce that Anushka is pregnant. He said they are expecting their first child in January 2021. “And then, we were three! Arriving Jan 2021,” he wrote on Twitter. The pair got married in December 2017.
IPL 2020 will be played from September 19 to November 10. It was moved out of India due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
