IPL 2020: Here's what gives Jasprit Bumrah most confidence while playing for Mumbai Indians
Jasprit Bumrah is one of the finest bowlers in world cricket right now. Known for his extra-ordinary bowling action, he is lethal when it comes to bowling yorkers. He has been playing for Mumbai Indians since 2013, where he has claimed 83 wickets in 78 matches.
Jasprit Bumrah is one such bowler who can churn out wickets on any given track, owing to his fine ability to bowl yorkers. Furthermore, given the freedom to bowl according to his will, he delivers the best when not under pressure.
Currently, he is the fourth-highest wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians (MI), where he has been playing since 2013. He is also in the race to become the second-highest this season. However, when it comes to his confidence and successful bowling in MI, Bumrah says that it is none other than Rohit Sharma's captaincy that leads him to perform his best.
"For me, he (Rohit) has always given me the freedom, he has always told me to express yourself (myself), be whatever you want, be it any situation, take ownership of your own bowling, so that gives me a lot of confidence and a responsibility that I'm responsible for whatever I'm doing," Bumrah said, reports PTI.
"So, that's a big thing for a captain because then he gives a bowler so much of confidence. He trusts you so much and he trusts the decisions that you will take and that's a very positive sign," added Bumrah.
So far, Bumrah has claimed 83 wickets in 73 matches at a good economy of 7.59. He has also been a part of their four title-winning campaign.
As far as Rohit's captaincy is concerned, it garnered praise from fellow MI batsman Suryakumar Yadav, who said that the former is generally calm-minded, even under pressure situations. "He is always open to take suggestions on the ground. I have seen him a lot of times when there is a crunch situation, or when he is put under pressure, that time he is very calm, cool and composed. He takes tough decisions during that time," Suryakumar said in a Twitter video for MI.
Rohit even had the acclaim of head coach Mahela Jayawardene, along with Director of Cricket Operations, Zaheer Khan. Meanwhile, Jayawardene hailed Rohit as a "very instinctive leader".
"You have this very relaxed, cool-looking guy. His mannerism when he bats, he's got that elegance, which you can call it lazy elegance. But, he is very intense and hard-core, when it comes to thinking about the game. He, actually, channelises his energy very well. He's very good with controlling the emotions of the pressure situation, he likes to take that pressure on himself," Zaheer said.
Rohit's this calmness in captaincy is certain to remind fans of MS Dhoni, who is popularly known as 'Captain Cool'. Be it for India or Chennai Super Kings (CSK), it is this calmness of Dhoni that has led him to a number of titles, as Rohit seems to be following the former's footsteps.
