Dubai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has praised Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) young opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal after his impressive half century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2020 on Monday (September 21).
Left-handed Padikkal made a brilliant beginning to his IPL career by smashing a 42-ball 56 with eight fours. The 20-year-old helped RCB get a superb start as the Virat Kohli-led team scored 90/1 in 11 overs.
Padikkal did the bulk of the scoring and his batting partner Aaron Finch of Australia played second fiddle. Thanks to Padikkal and AB de Villiers’ (51) half centuries, RCB posted 163/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, SRH were bowled out for 153 in 19.4 overs as legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal weaved his magic with figures of 3/18 in four overs.
After watching Padikkal’s knock, former India captain Ganguly took to Twitter to say that he enjoyed the youngster’s innings.
“Enjoyed watching devdutt padikal @RCBTweets ..left handers grace so delightful (sic),” Ganguly tweeted.
Ganguly also spoke about the three matches so far in IPL 2020 in the UAE. He called those contests as “good”.
“3 good matches in the IPL so far @bcci @IPL .. hopefully we will see lot more good matches in the men’s and women’s @BCCIWomen IPL in the next 60 days .. @ImHarmanpreet @imVkohli (sic),” he tweeted.
Before RCB’s win on Monday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) in the opener while Delhi Capitals (DC) edged Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Super Over.
IPL 2020 was moved out of India due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The cash-rich Twenty20 league will end on November 10. Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah are hosting the matches.
