In the process, it was the first time in consecutive Test innings at home that he was bowled out, besides being the fourth overall instance here. He has now the second most ducks across formats as a captain (12), after Sourav Ganguly (13). It is the first time he has been dismissed for a duck by a spinner in the format.</p>

He is also the second after Chris Gayle to score a century against England across formats. Furthermore, he has now become the third Indian opener with tins across formats (35) after Sachin Tendulkar (45) and Virender Sehwag (36). Also, he slammed the fourth fastest half-century by an Indian opener against England, in 47 deliveries, while the record for the same lies with Sehwag (32).</p>
