Cristopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' triumphs over Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' at the Indian Box office. It collected a whooping 13.50 crores on day 1 of its release, though both movies are getting positive responses from the audience---by Amrita Ghosh

On July 21, two of the most anticipated films to come out of Hollywood were released in theatres, Oppenheimer and Barbie, and in a remarkable feat Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' is surging past Margot Robbie's 'Barbie'. Both movies are getting an incredible response from the audience, but it has now been claimed that Nolan's movie has surpassed Barbie.
According to the website Sacnilk.com, Oppenheimer had a successful debut in India on its first day, earning a total of Rs 13.50 crore net across all languages. On the other hand, Barbie brought in a total of Rs 5 crore (net) on its first day of release in India. It was reported that Barbie had sold 16,000 seats in its advance booking across three multiple chains — PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis — for the opening day of the movie. On the other hand, Oppenheimer had about 1.30 million ticket sales for its first day across the same cinema hall chains.
With this, Oppenheimer has also eclipsed Tom Cruise's newly released movie, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, which had grossed Rs. 12.50 crores in India on its first day. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One was released only recently.
The novel "American Prometheus," authored by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin in 2005, served as the inspiration for Oppenheimer. The plot centers around J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was instrumental in the development of the atomic bomb during the time of World War II. Cillian Murphy plays the role of Oppenheimer. In addition to Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt, the film also features Matt Damon and Florence Pugh in significant parts.

On the other side, Barbie is an inspiration from the well-known Barbie fashion dolls, and it is directed by Greta Gerwig. The film is a fanciful comedy set in a fantastical world. In addition to Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the cast of the movie also includes Ariana Greenblatt, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emma Mackey, and a few more actors. After leaving their pristine pink Barbie world behind, the storyline of the film follows Barbie and Ken as they navigate the highs and lows of everyday life in the real world alongside other people. They are opened up to fresh experiences and opportunities as a result of this exploration.
