The Bharatiya Janata Party's national president JP Nadda on Tuesday released the manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Assam, promising to work on the corrected National Register of Citizens (NRC) for ‘Assam's protection.’

"We will protect genuine Indian citizens and detect infiltrators to ensure the Ahom civilisation stays safe," Nadda said in a press interaction after the release.

Nadda said that five years ago, Assam had become passive and had lost the ability to solve its problems.  "Under Sarbanand Sonwal and the dynamic leadership of PM Narendra Modi, it has changed. We have been able to push the inclusive development of Assam," he said.

"We have gained momentum of development. We are standing for a big leap. With these aspirations, we have put our words in 10 commitments to the people of Assam," the BJP chief said.

Nadda said the party is making 10 commitments to help Assam take the next big leap in the coming five years.

10 key promises made in Assam BJP manifesto:

·         BJP government will build big reservoirs around Brahmaputra to conserve extra water under Brahmaputra vision to save the people from floods.

·         30 lakh deserving families will be paid financial support of Rs 3,000 per month under Arunoday Scheme.

·         Rs 2.5 lakh financial support for all namgarhs.

·         Commitment to give quality education to children. Free education to all children in government institutions. Girl students will get bicycles from Class 8.

·         BJP government will work on a corrected NRC for Assam's protection.

·         To protect Assam's political rights, delimitation process will be sped up.

·         To make Assam self-sufficient, we will start Assam Aahar Aatmanirbharta initiative. For this, we will plan at the micro and macro level and take it ahead in several sectors,

·         Committed to make Assam the fastest job creating state in the country. Will provide 2 lakh jobs in the public sector - 1 lakh till March 31, 2022 and the rest till later. Will also provide 8 lakh jobs in the private sector.

·         To promote entrepreneurship: Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment scheme. 2 lakh youths to be supported as entrepreneurs every year for the next 5 years.

·         BJP promises to support more landless people through the ‘patta’ system.

Assam is set to go to the assembly election from March 27. The voting will be held in three phases and the counting of votes will be held on May 2. The ruling BJP is in direct contest with the Congress, which hopes to form a government after this election.
