In West Bengal's Birbhum District, a 32-year-old widow and mother of three was allegedly gangraped. Later, the local tribal court ordered her to pay Rs 60,000 as penalty because she sat on her “non-tribal” boyfriend's bike.

The victim, who approached police on Saturday, gave a written complaint.

As per reports, the woman, on Saturday, was heading home near Mohammad Bazar on a motorcycle with her boyfriend, who did not belong to her tribe, when they were allegedly waylaid by five persons. They were later reportedly kept in confinement. While the boyfriend was housed in a room, the woman was taken to a nearby forest area and allegedly gangraped.

The kangaroo court instead of sympathising with her, imposed a fine on her boyfriend and her. They were asked to pay Rs 60,000 penalty for being in a relationship, as the boy did not belong to their tribe.

Based on the complaint, police arrested five persons. Police also reached the woman's village where the penalty was imposed and are probing the case.
