The hanging of a 22-year-old sadhu at Sultanpur has created tension in the district as hundreds gathered. Few suspected that the young sage was murdered and then hanged from a tree near the temple.

The incident occurred at Veer Baba temple at Chhatauna village under Chanda Police Station on Thursday. The deceased is identified as Balayogi Satyendra Anand Saraswati Maharaj Naga Baba.

It is reported that the young sadhu had travelled to Uttar Pradesh from Himachal Pradesh and had been living in the temple premises for the last few years.

The crowd appealed to police to initiate a probe and arrest those responsible for the death of the young saint.

The jurisdictional police had taken the body and sent it for post-mortem. Further steps to investigate will be taken based on the report.

Earlier, two sadhus along with a driver were murdered in Maharashtra and the incident took a communal turn following which the Home Minister ordered a probe. The report said that villagers of Palghar lynched sadhus mistaking them to be thieves. The Home Minister later also released a list of villagers arrested in the case.
