Despite the existence of the pandemic and testing positive for the deadly COVID-19 infection, monsters hidden in men’s clothing continue to haunt women and girls with atrocious acts. A 14-year-old girl was raped at a 10,000-bed capacity COVID care centre when she went to the washroom.

The incident occurred on July 15 night at Sardar Patel COVID care centre in South Delhi's Chhatarpur. The accused, a 19-year-old, also a patient undergoing treatment for COVID-19, followed her with his associate and forced himself on her while his friend filmed the heinous act.

The victim and the accused both hail from Delhi.

The 10,000-bed capacity was set up after the number of COVID-19 cases continued to rise in the nation’s capital. Home isolation is difficult to manage, and this facility acts as a treatment centre and shelter for these patients. However, this act brings up the question of safety and security of patients in the facility.

According to the police, the victim first informed her relatives who are also admitted at the same facility. Following this, the matter was brought to the notice of authorities at the centre who in turn informed police.
