Swashbuckling South African batsman AB de Villiers remains one of the world's fiercest batsmen. However, he is retired from international cricket, as Proteas heavily miss his priceless services.

Having retired in 2018, de Villiers has, over the years, contemplated making an international return to help South Africa in global competitions. While he was on the line to do so ahead of the ICC World T20 2021, he has decided against it.

Reasoning on why de Villiers decided against it, Proteas head coach Mark Boucher feels that the former did not want to deprive a player of his spot in the side. "AB has his reasons, which I respect. Unfortunately, he's no longer in the mix. I say unfortunately because I think we all agree that he's still one of the best – if not the best – T20 players in world cricket," he told The Citizen.

"But, he alluded to being concerned about coming in ahead of other players who have been a part of the system. I don't think it sat well with him, which I understand. But, as a coach, I needed to try and get our best players for the team and the environment. AB is an energy booster in any environment, but I respect his reasoning. It was worth a go, but now let's move forward," he added.

De Villiers was seemingly looking to coming back to South Africa as he had told that he would be having talks with Boucher during the Indian Premier League 2021. However, Cricket South Africa made it clear on Tuesday that Mr 360 had decided against it.
